Thursday last week saw the last of Matrix’s seminars commemorating 40 years of the UK’s membership of the EU. Chaired by Rhodri Thompson QC, the seminar was on the broad theme of recent developments in EU financial law. We were pleased to play host to two eminent outside speakers, Dr Chiara Zilioli (Deputy Director General, Legal Services, at the European Central Bank) and Nick Segal (Partner in the global restructuring and insolvency team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Derigner). Dr Zilioli spoke about Banking Union and the evolving role of the ECB and Mr Segal about recent developments in the field of EU insolvency law. Our very own Professor Takis Tridimas also spoke: his talk focussed on the growing number of cases in the CJEU on EU financial law.
